I am a traditionalist when it comes to Horror Punk. I’m a Misfits/Ramones kind of guy, and it seems like these days most bands in the genre are distancing themselves from these influences. As a Radio Disc Jockey, there are very few records that are sent in to you that blow your mind, and leave you coming back again and again. However Eric Weiss, AKA “Zombie!”, has brought us a true throwback to the good old days of “Beat(ing) on the Brat” and way too much “Horror Business.”

Zombie!’s “The Outbreak” is a Horrific record, drawing influences from The Misfits, The Ramones, and creating a sound, that while reminiscent of the vintage horror punk sound, remains entirely their own. The album kicks off with “The Return of the Dead,” an ode to classic zombie flicks. The track opens with a blistering solo, brutal enough to melt the faces off of the oncoming horde of undead. The album continues to deliver with tracks such as “Death Rage,” a straightforward punk tune, that while simplistic, gets the blood pumping, and instills a blood lust in the listener. In “Friday the 13^th,” Weiss croons in a fashion not unlike that of Michale Graves. The lyrics of the whole album are an excellent display of Weiss’ poetic prowess, and stay genuine to his horror fanhood. This album is a punk rock powerhouse, running short and sweet. This album is perfect for anyone with a bloodlust for crunchy riffs, gruff vocals, and songs of the dead. So light some candles, dig up a grave, and turn this record up! This will be the sound to all your future ghoulish activities!
